What is CGPA?

CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is a grading system used by schools and universities to summarize academic performance across subjects or semesters. Depending on the institution, the same academic record may be published on a 4.0, 5.0, or 10.0 grading scale.

Recruiters, postgraduate applications, scholarship forms, and credential evaluators often ask for percentage equivalents. This page keeps every calculation client-side and lets you switch between university formulas, scale-based fallbacks, SGPA tools, GPA tools, and final-grade planning without leaving the page.

University Formulas and Scale Rules

The calculator reads formula strings from a local JSON database. When a university has a matching formula for the selected scale, that university rule is applied directly. If you switch to a different scale, the calculator falls back to the generic scale conversion stored in the scale database.

The university list on this page is maintained from the formula database used by the calculator. It combines university-specific entries with generic scale fallbacks so users can pick the rule that matches their transcript.

How to Pick the Right Formula

Start with the university listed on your transcript. If the transcript or official academic handbook already specifies a conversion formula, use that option first. If your institution only publishes a grading scale and not a dedicated conversion rule, the scale-based fallback is the safer approximation.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage for CBSE?
For CBSE-style 10-point grading, the common conversion is CGPA × 9.5. For example, a CGPA of 8.2 becomes 77.9%. If your university publishes a different rule, use that official formula instead of the generic multiplier.
Why do different universities use different formulas?
Each university calibrates its grade points differently. Some use a direct multiplier such as CGPA × 10, while others use adjusted formulas such as (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, or even CGPA × 8.9. The correct percentage depends on the specific university regulation or conversion notice, not just the grading scale.
What if my university uses a 4.0 or 5.0 grading scale?

Can I convert percentage back to CGPA?
Yes. The Percentage to CGPA tab reverses the active formula. For direct multipliers this is straightforward, while offset formulas have a limited valid range, so the calculator warns you when the selected percentage is outside the supported range for that university.
Can I use these conversions for job applications and admissions?
You can use them as working equivalents, but formal applications should always follow the method specified by the university, employer, or admission office. When an official conversion certificate or handbook exists, that source takes priority over any general estimate.
